After the conclusion of the Civil War, 19th century America was still a country divided by race, place, gender, and class. Using Roediger’s Wages of Whiteness, Erik Larsen’s The Devil in the White City, Twain’s The Gilded Age, and other readings to date, please develop an essay with an original thesis statement explaining how and why these divisions were perpetuated. Your paper should be 4 full pages with proper citations. As always, use examples from course readings and lectures to support your argument.
