Rhetorical Analysis of Johnson’s or Ryan’s Speech
Purpose:
Because rhetoric can unwittingly persuade a listener or reader, recognizing and analyzing the elements of rhetoric within a speech will help you become a stronger critical thinker. In this assignment, you will analyze a famous speech by finding examples of rhetorical element such as audience, purpose, repetition, imagery, logos, ethos, and pathos.

Directions:
1. View and analyze ONE of the speeches on poverty shown below, including its transcript.

Lyndon B. Johnson "War on Poverty Speech" and the transcript for the War on Poverty Speech, 1964
Paul Ryan’s speech "Poverty is Winning" and the transcript Poverty is Winning , 2012
