1. The Biden administrations 2022 National Security Strategy put forward three core themes: strategic competition with China and Russia; the importance of domestic industrial policy and investment; and a focus on climate change as a central challenge.

What are three key differences in the USs view of China versus that of Russia in terms of each countrys threat to the US. Do you agree with that assessment?

The NSS states, The future of Americas success in the world depends upon our strength and resilience at homeand especially the strength of our middle class, which is critical to our national security as an engine of economic growth and a key source of democratic vibrance and cohesion. The reverse is also true. Our success at home requires robust and strategic engagement in the world in line with our interests and values to make life better, safer, and fairer for the American people. That is why we must make far-reaching investments in the sources of our natural strength while building our resilience.

What specific sources of our natural strength are implied in this paragraph? What specific investments did the Biden administration propose? What do you think has been the main challenge in implementing this agenda?

The author states, “The way in which the Defense Department is supporting Ukraine leading a coalition to support a partner nation in the throes of conflict with arms and information means that the United States will be better positioned to defend Taiwan in the future, not in spite of Ukraine but because of it.” What specific reasons does the author provide in support of the argument that the United States will be better positioned to defend Taiwan in the future because of Ukraine?

 

Question 4: You are a victim advocate who is working with a homicide survivor whose sister was one of several women who were kidnapped, brutally raped, and ultimately murdered. The murderer is incarcerated waiting execution. The homicide survivor would like to speak to the person who killed his sister to ask several questions, to know why this happened, and to gain a sense of understanding, perspective, and closure. The offender agrees to this meeting, but expresses no remorse and, in fact states, that if given the chance to do it again, he would gladly murder all those women, smiling they deserved it anyway. After telling the brother about your meeting with the offender, the homicide survivor still wants to meet.
