1. Nature vs. Nurture is demonstrating if you were naturally born to be who you are and it was pre-determinded by your DNA and genetics. If you are genetically a boy and have male chromosomes, then you are meant to be male. Vice versa as stated in the text. Nurture is saying the exposure to envoirnment, influences of friends and families, personal experiences, etc. The text tries to pick the nature idea due to the genetics selecting your gender. In the text, it states ” However, her forerunner message continues as a bulwark against the “it’s ‘only natural’ argument.” No existing theory, specifically those grounded in essentialism, can explain the immense variety of meanings in the human experience attached to being male and female. It is pre-cisely this variation that has led to so much research questioning biologically-based beliefs regarding femininity and masculinity…” (Lindsey, 2021). The text is trying to say that long ago, society thought it was nature deciding this factor. Genetics play a role and this was pre-determinded through biological makeup. I personally believe it can be both. Your biological makeup could play a big role which effects you. Nurture aspect could be your personal influeces and beliefs that you are raised with. It could play a part but it doesnt always mean that it will determine the decisions you’ll make. Both ideas do play a part though.
Question: Do you think nature v nuture effects different parts of life? Explain why or why not.
