As part of this class, you are required to write a report that analyzes data from the historical period of China. It’s important to emphasize the basic requirement of this project is that you identify one or more data sets which you can download and analyze.
The report should have the following 4 separate section headings:
1) Introduction. What is the time period and the historical region covered in your report? Give a clear statement of the question that the report will address. Why does the question seem interesting (and/or important) to you in the context of that historical background? This section should not be longer than 1 – 2 pages. (2 points)
2) Data and Descriptive statistics. Which variables have you selected to analyze in detail? You may generate new variables using the variables in the data. Create a table showing the mean, the max, the min of your variables. Are there any other observations about the data you can make from looking at the trends of individual variables either over time or trends across regions, and if so what are they? How do these trends relate to, confirm, or contradict what you know about
this time period and this region? (2 points)
3) Analysis. This section should use analytical tools of data analysis to answer the question you have posed. To earn points on this section as well as the next section of your paper, you must produce your own Tables and Figures in Excel, STATA, or another data platform in order to summarize and present the results of your data analysis. Do not rely on copied figures and tables in published articles, books, or online sources. In analyzing the relationship between two or more variables, form a correlation statistic between two variables, or, run a regression among three or more variables. Produce Tables and Figures to summarize and present your results. Report of the quantitative results from your correlation and regression analysis. (3 points)
4) Summary and Interpretation. How do you interpret your results? What do your results say about the historical context of the time and region you are analyzing? What are the key points the reader should take away from your report? Are there broader conclusions that might apply to your findings? (2 points)
5) List of references of at least 5 published articles and books relevant to your research for your paper, including not more than 2 online sources .
