Assessment Description
Objective: The objective of this assignment is to effectively work in teams to formulate and recommend
possible solutions in practical scenarios using management accounting techniques and tools, especially
excel spreadsheets

Required:

Work in teams (groups) of 3 members (please get your lecturer’s prior approval to change the team size)
to complete the case studies using the excel spreadsheet program as noted in the details of assignment.
Any work which has been copied or shared between teams or groups will result in a Fail grade for all
students concerned. This assignment must be your teams own work and all members of the team will be
awarded the same team mark. Your team’s work must not be copied directly from any source.
Please check the marking rubric for each part to ensure that you have followed all the guidelines for
presenting your work. The assignment will need to be submitted electronically on the portal by the due
date. Please make sure you follow the guidelines especially those relating to the presentation of written
work, late assignment policy, and academic integrity.

DETAILS OF ASSIGNMENT: CASE STUDIES USING EXCEL SPREADSHEET
Students are required to complete the following questions taken from the prescribed textbook;
Management Accounting, Information for Creating and Managing Value 7th Edition by Langfield-Smith K,
Thorne H, Smith D and Hilton R.

Please note that you are required to use an excel spreadsheet file in which at least 3 separate
worksheets (1 for each question) should be created to answer each question. You may have more
than 3 worksheets in your file if you wish to. Each question carries a total mark of 15; 3 of these marks will be allocated for spreadsheet design and the remaining 12 marks per question to the technical content.

Case Study 1: Chapter 9 – Problems: P 9.30 using an excel spreadsheet answer all requirements
(pages 424 – 425) 15 Marks
Case Study 2: Chapter 5 – Problems: P 5.33 using an excel spreadsheet answer all requirements
(page 210 – 211) 15 Marks
Case Study 3: Chapter 18 – Cases: C18.31 using an excel spreadsheet answer all requirements
(pages 832 – 833)
