- You must have two sources total (although you can have more). One of these sources is the article that has already been provided to you. You can expand upon the writer’s ideas with your own thoughts. Remember, keep the essay in third person.
- Follow these guidelines concerning your sources:
Your essay should make use of reliable, current sources. Within the last five years may be current enough for some issues; other issues may require more current sources.
You may use one primary source if you know someone with specialized knowledge about your issue.
Avoid common knowledge sources like wikipedia, encyclopedias (unless specialized), and uncredited sources (author unknown) unless they are from databases. An abstract is not a source (it’s a preview of what the actual source is about).
Each of your sources need to be cited in the body of the essay with in-text citations and included on the Works Cited page.
- Each supporting paragraph should include one quote from one of your sources.
