In this assignment, you will restate your topic of interest and write a mini-literature review (at least five pages)
based on the sources you summarized in Assignment 2. You may change your topic and articles if you find that
upon your writing, you need different sources as long as they are appropriate sources.
Once you have summarized your literature, discuss the concepts of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinarity,
including why interdisciplinarity is considered important in the social sciences. Using your articles as examples,
discuss how your topic has been examined by individual social science disciplines and how an interdisciplinary
perspective enhances our understanding.
Literature should include: all above and in addition it should summarize the literature pertaining to your topic,
speak specifically about a directional hypothesis, and describe a way that you would like to test this hypothesis
(the methodology of your study would be what? this part does not have to be worked out all the way.. just
logically think about the best way you could test this hypothesis). This section should be the last part of your
paper. Ideally, this is exactly what would happen in a real research proposal as this information would lead the
reader directly into the methodology chapter of a real research proposal paper where the author would
describe the methodology of the study in full detail. Of course you will not do this but completing you paper this
way is good practice for the future.
