Most of you will be aware of the battle going on in U.S. courts over demands that President Trump produce his income tax returns.
Let’s put the issue into a Canadian context.
For the purposes of this debate, you are all Members of Parliament.
You are members of the Opposition and will argue in support of the resolution.
This is the resolution, introduced by the leader of the Opposition:
Be it resolved that the Prime Minister and all Cabinet ministers be required to deposit their personal income tax returns for the current year and preceding four years with the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner of this House of Commons, such returns to be made available online for public examination.
Argue that disclosure of this information is in the public interest as a means of guarding against conflicts of interest.
