” Experimental investigation of bearing capacity of sand reinforced with rubbers (crumbs tire)”

The topic of my thesis is ” Experimental investigation of bearing capacity of sand reinforced with rubbers (crumbs tire)”. So, this research is mainly talked about the properties of sand that will be mixed with tire crumbs and how does the crumbs will enhance the properties of the sand. Actually, this sand-rubber mixture will be applied on Boubyan island in Kuwait which is known with its very soft and muddy clay. Five samples will be used in this research which are:
1- Sand with 0% rubber crumbs (sand only)
2- Sand with 10 % rubber crumbs
3- Sand with 20 % rubber crumbs
4- Sand with 30 % rubber crumbs
5- Sand with 40 % rubber crumbs

After I’ve done the Standard Proctor Compaction test and the Direct Shear Test for the sand and sand-rubber mixture and obtained the properties for each sample, Plaxis 2D software will be used to calculate the settlement and ultimate bearing capacity for all samples and it will helps to know for each sample of sand rubber mixture how much thickness will be needed to make the surface (boubyan clay) stable and not collapse.

Know, to write this thesis I need the writer to write the methodology, results, analysis and discussion, and conclusion. The introduction and background will be written after. If I see what I want in the sections I mentioned I will pay later on for the introduction and literature review.

I attached the file for the main ideas that should be mentions in the thesis the file (thesis) will explain how I wants my thesis flow and what are the main headlines that should be discussed. All the results I got from the experiments tests I done is there in the file. Also, there are some graphs and tables that can help to analyze the results. The paragraphs written in this file should be changed and written in your way because they are all copied from another papers. Its just there to explain for you what I want exactly.

For the compaction test part, the file (past paper) will help you to know how I want you to analyze the results I got from the test. I would like you to add more paragraphs from your own.
For the direct shear test part, the files (past paper) and (Gerard thesis) is helpful. Try to go the same way how Gerard wrote his thesis because I really like his way.
Finally, for the plaxis part the file (plaxis thesis) is the file I want you to follow to write the discussion for the plaxis 2D part. In this file the thesis was about only sand while my thesis is about 5 samples sand and sand-rubber mixture with different ratios of rubber crumbs so do it the same but for my idea the rubber percentage added is a variable. the results for all sample were represented in the excel file attached. While the faiure pattern is selected according to the figure attached in the (failure pattern) folder. The failure pattern is selected according to the plastic point (the red points in the appeared in the figures if they reached the lower layer or no). I will attach a file name (plaxis manual) that will help you to write about how does plaxis work and in page 164 or (5-10) you will find the part of plastic points. Also, as I mentioned above the file (past thesis) will help you to write more for this part.

1- Methodology (not less than 14 pages)

a- Introduction: write that this section will talk about the materials used and the ratios of rubber that will be mixed with the sand and that the percentages of rubber will be added according to the total weight of the samples.
b- Research materials
1- Sand: write about the locations of the sand and from where they’ve been collected. And the properties of the sand measured from the sieve analysis, specific gravity, and max./min. unit weight.
2- Rubber: from where it been taken and its size. Sieve analysis and specific gravity and absorption. And I need the writer to write more about the properties of rubber in general and how it helps to enhance the properties of the sand.
c- Main test equipment
1) Standard Proctor Compaction test: write about this test in details and how samples is prepared ( It is written in (thesis) file), how does it work and what can be measured form this test (ex. Optimum water content and maximum dry unit weight). Write that for this test 5 kg will be used for each sample
-Sample 1: sand only
-sample 2: Sand with 10% rubber crumbs
-sample 3: Sand with 20% rubber crumbs
-sample 4: Sand with 30% rubber crumbs
-sample 5: Sand with 40% rubber crumbs
2) Direct shear test (DST): write about this test in details and how samples is prepared ( It is written in (thesis) file, how does it work and what can be measured form this test (ex. Friction angle, cohesion, vertical and horizontal displacement, …. etc.). Write that for this test 3 kg will be used for each sample as mentioned above and that the water content will be added in this test depend on the one obtained in the compaction test for each sample separately.
3) Plaxis 2D: here write that in this software a model will be run to calculate the settlement and ultimate bearing capacity for each sample. The load will be used in the run in 1000 kN and different heights will be tested until collapse disappear and stable results reached.

2- Results, analysis, and discussion (not less than 34 pages including the pictures/graphs)

a- Shear stress horizontal displacement relationship
b- Vertical deformation horizontal displacement relationship
c- Coulomb failure envelope for tire crumbs sand mixtures
d- Influence of tire crumbs content on cohesion and friction angle of sand
e- Influence of tire crumbs and applied normal pressure on shear strength of sand

3- Conclusion (3pages)
Write what you conclude from the Results, analysis, and discussion section. First write 2 to 3 paragraphs and then list the points of the main concluded

4- Recommendation (1 page)
Write what do you recommend enhancing the thesis (for example: we can use shredded tires instead of crumbs…. etc.) and if you had a creative other ideas as a solution for enhancing the clayey ground in boubyan island and so on.
