In the Brief and True Account of the Exploration of New Mexico, 1583, an account of Rodriquez’s expedition (1581-1582), 40 years after Francisco Vasquez de Coronado’s first expedition into the region looking for Cibola (1540-1542), describes their encounters with Puebloan peoples of the northernmost territory of New Spain. Considering the larger context of the Rodriquez expedition (events before, during, and after), was Escalante and Barrado’s interpretation of their interaction with Native peoples different from the Native peoples they encountered? Why?
