Is the attitude towards allowing women to be topless on Toronto beaches different for men and women?

Forum Reseach conducted a telephone survey on August 25th 2014 of 931 randomly sampled Torontonians 18 years of age and older. Each person was asked ‘Would you approve or disapprove of women being allowed to go topless at city beaches?’.
The results are in the table below.

Do not type these data into Minitab. The data is available on your course Moodle site in the file Beaches.MTW to download into Minitab directly. In Minitab, C1 is the “Approve” column, C2 is the “Disapprove” column and C3 is the “Don’t know”.

2. Type your name and ID in the session window.

3. Perform a chi-squared analysis using Minitab, as follows:

Stat > Tables > Chi-Square Test for Association ….

Select Summarized data in two-way table from pull-down menu. Click in the box to make it active and double-click on C1 through C3 to make them appear in this box. Click Statistics and select
Chi-square test, Display counts in each cell, Display marginal counts, Expected cell counts and Each cell’s contribution to chi-square, then click OK and OK. Your results will appear in the session window.

4. Print the session window.

Submit the session window output, and your assignment answers completed on the following template.

2. Perform a chi-squared analysis using Minitab, as follows:

Statistics > Tables > Cross Tabulation

Select Summarized data from two-way table from pull-down menu. Then double-click on C1 through C3 to make them appear in the appropriate space. Click Display and select Chi-square test for association, Expected cell counts and Each cell’s contribution to chi-square, then click OK. Your results will appear in the output window. Click on the output then select File > Print to print the output.

3. This final step is included to make sure you are submitting your own work and not copying someone else’s.

In the Minitab spreadsheet, go to Column C4 and row 1. This means you’ll be right beside the 39, which is the first value in the Don’t know column C3. Type Math2209 in this spot.

Express on PC: Next choose Data > To Text. Enter C4 in the box Recode values in the following columns.
Express on Mac: Choose Data > Recode > To Text. Double-click on C4 so its value appears in values in the following columns.

Under the box Recoded value, replace Math2209 with your name and student number. Then hit OK. The output will appear in the Output window. Select File > Print to print this output.

4. Close Minitab with File > Exit.
