THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS

OVERVIEW
The purpose of this assignment is to focus on one essential step of the research process, the selection of a theoretical or conceptual model that serves as a research framework. Prior to completing this assignment, read the items in the Learn section for this module. After reading the article in the Learn section for Module/Week 6 you will respond to the following statements:

 Part 1: Introduction Paragraph: Provides an overview of what the paper will discuss. The heading will be the “Title of the Paper” and not “Introduction”
 Part 2:Theory in Research: Identify and briefly describe the 3 ways that theory is used in research: Use the heading “Theory Use in Research,” additional subheadings may be used if desired
 Part 3: Theory as a Conceptual Framework: Use the criteria listed in Chapter 20 “Use of a Theory as a Conceptual Framework in a Nursing Study” of the McEwen & Wills text to evaluate how theory was used as a conceptual framework in the nursing study discussed in the selected article. Use the heading “Theory as a Conceptual Framework” as a level one heading and use the following level 2 subheadings:

 Nursing vs. Non-Nursing:
• Within nursing, there has been debate regarding the source of the theories used in nursing research. Should nursing research utilize nursing theories, non-nursing theories, or a combination of the two? Explain your answer.
