Description
Descartes wasn’t the first Philosopher to believe that we are made up of two parts (our bodies and our minds) but he was perhaps the first to clearly layout and analyze the idea. If it is true that our minds and bodies are two different things, then they could be separated. If your body and mind were to be separated, where would you be? Let’s say, for example, that we have a “mind switching” device where we can swap the minds of two people between their bodies. We use this device and switch your mind with that of Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt (your choice). So your mind is in their body and their mind is in your body. Where are you? Why are you there and not somewhere else? What criteria are you using for identity in saying this? Are there issues with using these criteria for identity? Why or why not?
Instructions: Making argument by answering all questions above and give examples supporting your ideas. Make sure you CONNECT all of your ideas to each other and always be sure that everything you say leads back to your thesis.
