How would a political economy (social provisioning) framework explain how
someone goes about deciding whether or not to wear a mask during the COVID-19
pandemic? How is the political economy explanation of this behavior different than the
explanation provided by the free-market (individual self-interest) framework? Note that
the question is NOT asking you about YOUR opinion about masks. Instead, use this
concrete example to demonstrate that you understand and can apply concepts from the
readings in Part I of the course.
