Project for MGMT 460, Designing Effective Organizations

Personal Improvement Project: Emotional Intelligence is crucial for effective leadership and management.
Emotional intelligence requires self-awareness, ability to manage one’s emotions, capability to motivate
oneself, empathy for others, and effective social skills. Regardless of your career choice, there will be times
when you will be expected to manage personal change—yours and/or others’. For this project, you will be
expected to engage in a personal improvement process that will last the entire semester—and hopefully for
a lifetime. “What is one thing that you are not doing now that if you began to do would greatly improve the
quality of your life?” Your answer to this question will become the objective of your personal improvement
project. This project will require your analysis of your own strengths and weaknesses. You will decide what
you will do to improve. You will be required to take regular, consistent, quantifiable, measurable, specific
actions to improve. You will be required to use Blackboard to report your progress weekly for the months of
February, March, and April. You will have until Tuesday evening at 11:59 pm to report your previous week’s
progress. If you neglect or forget to report, you will lose the points for that week. Finally, you will summarize
your project in a 2-3 page report. In this report, you should discuss your project, progress, methodology,
metrics, evidence of improvement, and things learned. With your final report, you will send your
weekly/monthly calendars and progress tracking backup materials.
