Executive Summary
The phenomenon behind Open Innovation has been one of the most debated topics in management research in the last decade. Although significant research has been carried out in recent years, a number of areas continue to remain under-developed. In particular, this includes Innovation Networks. This paper attempts to overcome this limitation by providing a contextual overview of Innovation Networks. Based on current literature, it reveals, among other things, that by embarking in strategic partnerships with other firms, can organisations acquire and sustain competitive advantage. Finally, the extent of the effectiveness of Innovation Networks in relation its implementation is discussed.

Introduction
This report addresses one of the branches of Open Innovation (OI), namely Innovation Networks. Based on the special issue of The Future of Open Innovation, the focus is on all ten articles, where relevant information has been fleshed out and incorporated where necessary. The main objective of this paper is to provide a comprehensive overview and ultimately improve the current understanding, adding to the literature of Innovation Networks.
Thus, the report is structured as follows: Section 1 reviews the relevant literature on OI and Innovation Networks. Section 2 develops an explanation of one of the theoretical frameworks of Innovation Networks as well as outlining relevant theories. Section 3 provides an in-depth discussion with the use of real-world examples that implement OI as part of their strategic network partnership. And lastly Section 4 includes a brief review of future implications of Innovation Networks.
