In this assignment, you will write an essay of at least 825 words (3-4 pp) that rhetorically analyzes a text addressing an issue within food politics (See list below). Your analysis will explain how your text uses certain compositional elements and rhetorical appeals to make an audience think/feel/identify with/act about food in a certain way. Sufficient research on the text’s author and other elements should help provide further support for your claim. Your essay should contain a focused thesis that is probable, persuasive, and supported with direct textual citation and primary textual analysis.
Audience: Write your analysis for me, your teacher, to demonstrate understanding of rhetorical analysis and to practice writing in the appropriate register of academic genre. Consider how an academic reader affects decisions you make as you write your paper, especially in establishing an effective ethos and rhetorical stance.
Format: 825 word MLA formatted manuscript (7th edition). For this essay, I am requiring MLA format (no exceptions). Please see the Penguin Handbook for examples of MLA format, including in-text citation, page layout, and works cited.Visual evidence as appropriate with required captions and citations. A works cited included at the end of your essay is required for practice with academic formatting.
