Scenario
You are an operations management consultant who has been asked to
critically analyse the operations function in a well-known company. The aim
of the report is to assist the senior management, better understand their
operations strategy and help them develop a strategic plan for the future.
Your Task
Given the above information, you are asked to produce a report as follows:
You should choose a suitable company in either the manufacturing or
service sector. The company should be one that is well known to you or one
that can be researched in some depth. Larger organisations such as those
on the FTSE 100 Index are more likely to have this information available.
Once you have chosen the company, you should provide the following:
1) A critical review of the organisational approach to operations
strategy. Your report should consider how the operation adds value
and how it relates to its business environment. (LO1, LO3, LO4)

2) A critical analysis of how information system creates competitive
advantage in the operations. (LO1, LO2, LO4) (40% of the available
marks)
3) A critical review of the operations approach to job design. (LO1,
LO3, LO5) (20% of the available marks)
Guidelines
Please read all questions and information provided carefully. The answer
should be made in appropriate length keeping in view the requirement of
each question and total word counts allowed. In addition, your assignment
should demonstrate the following qualities:
A critical appreciation of relevant literature and its use to support argument,
substantiate calculations and other aspects of the assignment.
Taking ownership of the content, being prepared to debate and argue a
personal position, and providing evidence of evaluative skills. A submission
made up of extracts from published sources which is descriptive or simply
