Research Inquiry – Examine the concepts “community” and “learning environment” along with two best practices associated with each. In addition to using the
common readings from the course, locate and review two articles, one that addresses “community” and on that addresses “learning environment.” At least one of the articles
you locate needs to have been published within the past 5 years, written by an expert in the field, and published in a peer-reviewed professional journal.
Identify a present or former colleague who you believe has successfully established, led, and sustained an effective learning community. Conduct an interview with this person
to explore their approach and experience with building learning communities. Use the interview questions designed collaboratively with your community members (i.e. fellow
students) that probe into the approaches, strengths, struggles, and presence/application of the 5 SEL competencies to guide your interview.
Review the articles you located and notes from the interview you conducted to then:
1. Create a graphic organizer (see options below) that illustrates key concepts from your articles and interview highlighting:
1. Key concepts gleaned from the articles and interview.
2. Qualities of a community and an effective learning environment.
3. Strategies for creating and sustaining an effective community and learning environment.
2. In writing, summarize the salient points regarding:
1. Definitions and characteristics of a community and an effective learning environment (together in association), along with best practices associated with each.
2. Strategies for creating and sustaining an effective community and an effective learning environment.
3. The role SEL competencies play in creating and sustaining an effective community.
4. Draw conclusions and articulate suggestions for application in your practice.
