The ontological assumptions

    Choose one concept related to justice studies and/or a crime and describe the ontological assumptions made within that concept. You have a lot of free rein in this question, so feel free to be Imaginative in what concept you choose and your answers. Remember that I am not looking for a semantic description. If your answer could function as a legal or dictionary description of a crime, then it is not an ontological discussion. Think about what assumptions we make when we decide what is and what is not crime. e.x. Until recently, sociological understandings of domestic violence assumed a male abuser and female victim. What sort of assumptions are tied up into this definition? What does it ignore? Why did we define domestic violence using such a strict gender analysis? Are there any benefits to this type of definition? You do not have to answer these questions directly (although your are welcome too), but instead they are designed to get you thinking about your specific question.
