A statement of the controversy in detail and depth that is sufficient to indicate that it is, in fact, a genuine (or real) controversy; that is, its resolution is not obvious;
Setting out the arguments that have been made on each side of the controversy, with full citation of the sources of those arguments;
A comparison and contrast of those arguments; this engages their relationships to each other; and finally
Setting out your own position (that is, which side you believe provides the best arguments) on the controversy, providing solid support and arguments for your position.
