Academic Online Portfolio
For this activity, you must establish your own personal web portfolio page, using one of the several "freebie" online services such as Webs.com, WordPress.com,
Wix.com, GoDaddy.com, etc. It's expected that most are similar in the features of their basic no-fee site, and so each student may select for him/herself which service
is most appealing and that seems most easy-to-build.
All that is required to fulfill the expectations of this activity is to
(a) set up the site;
(b) post some graphic or photo to the front page using a screenshot tool (more info below)ABOUT SCREENSHOTS
With regard to obtaining a screenshot tool, many who have Windows use OneNote for those kinds of tasks--and that is fine, as long as you have some capacity to capture
what is on your computer screen so that it can be posted to your portfolio. There is more than one screenshot tool out there that you can download for free.
Personally, I regularly use something by TechSmith called Jing.
If you were looking at my computer screen, you would see what appears to be a small sun-like object that I've located about 2/3rds across the top. Anytime I have
something that I want to share, all I have to do is mouse-over the sun, click on the "capture" icon that shows up, and then a sizing tool shows up on the screen to
allow me to select the part of the screen I want to capture. Once selected, I tell Jing where I want my screenshot saved, and it's done. If you'd like to see any of
the several brief tutorials, just look on YouTube, and search on something like "using Jing."
If you'd like to give it a try, go to this web address to download:
https://www.techsmith.com/download/jing/
The end product should show some banner (I would suggest something explicitly descriptive like My McNeese Portfolio, but that's up to your own preference), and contain
at least one graphic, as shown here on this one I've started using Webs.com:as show in attachment below..
Over the course of your enrollment in the Family & Child Studies program, you will want to use this site as your online portfolio where you can upload and warehouse
what you consider to be your best work, (I will upload my Term paper and My Research Article Mark-up so you could post to the Portfolio) including photos that
appropriately convey your community involvement and work with families to future potential employers and/or graduate school admission committees.
