After reading "Baby You Can't Drive My Car"

After reading "Baby You Can't Drive My Car" http://www.slate.com/articles/double_x/doublex/2013/03/car_ads_for_women_does_the_industry_get_it_all_wrong.htmlor "Mirrors of Masculinity: Representation and Identity in Advertising Images" http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/download?doi=10.1.1.523.2656&rep=rep1&type=pdf write a1.5- 2 page short essay that discusses how the author incorporates the following “Thinking Moves for Rhetorical Reading.” Remember the author may not use ALL the moves, so simply focus on the ones that are incorporated. Also, this is a relatively short assignment so be sure to choose the “Thinking Moves” that are of interest to you as well, as you will not have enough space to discuss everything, nor do I want you to submit an assignment longer than two pages.   Thinking Moves for Rhetorical Reading: Notice: Does the ad incorporate repetition with words, ideas, and/or images? How does the author use this as a point of analysis? Does the author mention of credentials, evidence, and research? Focus: Go back to your Notice section and think about the sub-points. Now focus, ask yourself why the text has chosen to present and prioritize the issue. Ranking: Rank your list of important issues, also rank what you find most interesting, as well as what you find not interesting. Once you are done ranking, ask yourself what and why you find some of the analysis interesting versus not interesting. Is it based on intended audience? Is it based solely on the topic/problem i.e. the author’s thesis? Do you feel you are not the intended target market? So What?: Now that you have noticed and ranked, now let’s move into critical thinking. “So what?” requires you to explain what the advertisement means, to explain why it matters to the reader, and/or why it matters to the brand? How does the author address the “So what?”
