We are a computer security team at the Department of Justice. Confidential case information was hacked into due to negligence of employees using personal email addresses and non encrypted files. Information regarding confidential informants and witnesses was leaked to the general public and these gaps in security need to be filled in. This information could have consequences resulting in mistrials and compromised informants/witnesses who entrusted the justice system. Because employees used personal emails, it exposed this information to channels of insecurity that it wouldn’t have orginially been exposed to if not for the negligence.
