Benjamin Franklin in Higher Education

        Identify a person of some historical significance in America. The individual can come from any one of a number of professional fields--politics, economics, business, religion, etc.--but should not be known for his/her role in the field of education (In other words, the individual should not have been a school teacher, a faculty member, or a university leader.) Using both primary and secondary sources, analyze the significance of higher education in the personal and professional development of this individual. Specifically, how did this person's experience as a student at one or more colleges or universities, at the undergraduate and perhaps graduate levels, influence his/her personal life trajectory, professional expertise, and civic service to the nation?
