3.2 Assignment 1 – BIM principles report. 3.2.1 Assignment objectives On completion of this assignment the student should be able to: - Understand the principles of Building Information Modelling (BIM) - Correctly apply knowledge of BIM technology and software - Designate BIM roles and responsibilities to different stakeholders in the construction industry 3.2.2 Assignment brief Starting in week one you will be introduced to various aspects of BIM principles and their implications. These include technology, stakeholders, construction process and business rationale aspects. The first four weeks of lectures will cover the material necessary to complete this report. The assignment requires students to demonstrate analytical thinking in reflecting upon real-life problems relating to BIM principles and their implications in terms of technology, stakeholders, construction process and business rationale. Students are encouraged to read additional material that will be provided on Blackboard, as well as doing their own investigations. Please pay careful attention to the assignment objectives, and in no more than 2000 words (excluding notes, diagrams, tables, figures, footnotes and reference list) outline the critical principles of BIM and the role of a BIM manager (and what the role is not). This course places a high value on the development of students’ academic and professional writing including such qualities as structuring sections and paragraphs to bring out a sound professional discussion, control of the conciseness and relevance of the discussion, ability to summarise and critique the arguments of pertinent writers, and to use appropriate citation and referencing techniques. You must of course meet the required standard of academic integrity (see Section 4 of this Course Outline). Your final submission must include a cover page, and be submitted via Turnitin to ensure compliance with this requirement.
