CAN THE AMERICAN DREAM SURVIVE THE NEW MULTI-ETHNIC AMERICA

In comparing ideals across racial groups, Shapiro et al have found that “even when African Americans do everything right…they cannot achieve the wealth of their white peers in the workforce” (as qtd in Cohen-Marks & Stout 827). What impact does this limitation have on the ideal of the American dream? Is the American dream realistically measured by wealth after all? How do you measure achieving the dream? What yardstick do you use?
