Causes ADHD

    Description       Discuss ADHD from the perspective of cognitive psychology. Specifically the multiple different types of causes, why there has been such an increase in the number of reported cases, and how treatments options are used/misused based on the etiological factors of the disease. Class discussion: we discussed both genetical and environmental factors that can cause the disease. The following were also addressed as possible cause factors: • Insurance and pharmaceutical companies: how they make money out of people who are diagnosed with ADHD • Possible implications of the current DSM vs. the old versions of the DSM. • Parental diffusion of responsibility: how parents want their kids to get tested because it's easier that approach their behavior with medication rather than taking the time to tutor them or investing in additional educational and behavioral support • Schools wanting to control much more kids: this creates a need for good behavior in class
