Classroom Management Critical Inquiry

Directions:

Effective teachers engage in ongoing critical reflection of their teaching practices and children’s learning experiences, both individually and with colleagues. To support your development as collaborative professionals and reflective practitioners, you will work in two/three-person “inquiry groups” over the course of the semester. The groups will be formed based on your practicum site. Your group will meet outside of class to collectively reflect upon a selected incident or dilemma from your practicum experience related to classroom management or student behavior.

2. 3-page inquiry reflection
• Identify the cause/catalyst of incident, cultural/ethical/developmental dilemma, risk factors, impact on classroom community etc.
• What could have been done differently? In what way the situation could be improved?
• Reflect on the following statements…
– If the rules and expectations for behavior are clear and consistently enforced
– If the teacher is consistently proactive and monitors the classroom effectively to prevent problems from developing
– If the teacher effectively redirects misbehaviors by focus on positive and making use of subtle cues. Behavior management does not take time away from learning
