Communication and collaboration
Description:
You are a special education teacher in a primary school that has a full inclusion policy;
all
students identified with additional leaning needs are fully included in regular
classrooms- In
you role you work with classroom teachers to develop and implement inclusive
teaching
and learning programs to ensue all students are able to successfully access and
participate in the curiculum- You also manage the planning process for students with
disability in you school, and as such the Principal has asked you to facilitate a
resolution to
a conflict situation that has arisen amongst some of the teaching staff having to do
with a
new enrolment-
You school has just enrolled a new student that has moderate intellectual disability-
While
there will be teacher aid support for this student, the total time allocated is only 10
hous per
week with some of this time being used duing break/meal times, meaning that most
class
time will be without additional staff support- The classroom teacher, as well as the
specialist HPE, Arts, and Music teachers all feel that their class should have the
allocated
teacher aid time however it is clear that this is not feasible- Futher to this, you have
received several aggressive emails from the teachers involved suggesting that this is
‘all
you fault’ as you have been one of the strongest proponents for full inclusion at the
school.
In you role, the Principal has requested that you facilitate a meeting of all relevant
teaching
