Scenario:
You are working within the IS group for a large manufacturing enterprise that has been in business since 1962. The firm has a relatively mature IT staff that has used traditional “in-house” means of building and managing hardware and software infrastructure. A new, “young gun” CIO has been hired to modernize the IT organization and their first order of business is to explore a reduction in the overall dependency on internally owned and managed infrastructure resources. You are the CTO (Chief Technology Officer) for this IT organization and have been charged with exploring cloud-based infrastructure services. The CIO has asked that you provide a short report on possible areas to explore along with specific providers of that service. This is a starting point exercise, so you are only to report on three broad areas of Cloud Computing and consideration of a single vendor of each of these services:
• IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) • PaaS (Platform as a Service) • SaaS (Software as a Service)
