Discuss and explain the concepts of emotional competence and self-care, using both the textbook and the Lecture. Why is the question, “How Do I Feel?” so important? Analyze your own emotional competence and your strategies for self-care.
In terms of self-care strategies and emotional competence, how do you deal with the following as they occur in your life now (not necessarily in a counseling context) or have occurred before: monotony, fatigue, and “the dispirited life.”

Chose a few (at least two or three) of these situations to consider from the hypothetical perspective of you being the counselor or the client. For instance, you might choose to consider the situation in which you are a counselor and you feel great deal of anger toward a client.
Or you might choose to be a client whose therapist expresses a great deal of anger at you.
For each situation you choose, answer the following: (a) How do you think you would feel? (b) What would be your strategies for self-care?
does not cover oppression issues like racism, sexism and homophobia. If you would like to discuss one of these as part of your answer, that is fine.
