Deconstruction of a Structural Theory
Deconstruction of a Structural Theory
Order Description
Directions: In the table below, identify three specific variables of the figure/theory in column 1 and define the variable in column 2. In column 3, explain the effect
of the variable identified in column 1. After completing the deconstruction table, write a 200-250-word summary regarding what you discovered about the theory. Use the
selected diagram to support your explanation.
It has been said that to truly understand a social theory you must see it in a diagram and be able to explain it. Here is our chance to take a diagram of a structural
theory and go deep in our analysis. Using the deconstruction worksheet, your role is to deconstruct (identify the parts of the figure/theory and lay them out
separately). Every part and word of the diagram needs to be accounted for, with a statement of how identified part of the chart interacts with other parts of the
chart. The chart has arrows to show impact and causality. The chart also shows categories, such as Macro-level structures that can be defined by the chart.
You will use concepts from exchange theory and from Parsons’s stage model of social evolution as variables in the theory. The diagram ends with the expression of the
global social problem.
After finishing the deconstruction chart, write a 200-250-word summary about what you discovered about the theory.
