Different Types of Political Organization in Ancient Greece
Different Types of Political Organization in Ancient Greece
Order Description
1. This is one of five essay prompts that I was given to prep for at home before the in-person final. This is an essay question that I have to write on a test by hand (2.5 pages on paper,) so it does not have to be long or dragged out; it needs to directly address each component of the prompt, or else I will have to send back for revision. Please divide paragraphs based on each component of the essay question.
2. Please note when writing: Essay with a clear and creative thesis (instructor is specifically looking for this; cite specific examples from the texts (direct quotes and page #s are not necessary); *situate the discussion in relation to Greek culture*
3. Prompt: Homer’s Odyssey, Greek lyric poetry, and Aeschylus’ Oresteia tell the story of Greece’s political transformation over the course of several centuries. Develop an essay that considers how these works portray different types of political organization: tribal politics based on “big men” like Odysseus and Agamemnon, the cycle of oligarchy and tyranny represented in Greek lyric, and the arrival of democratic institutions in the Oresteia. What can literature reveal about politics in the ancient world?
