Diversity within your classroom

Think back to your elementary school days. How much diversity was present within your classroom? What socioeconomic groups were represented by the student body? In your opinion, how well did the teacher address the differences of each student? What more could he or she have done?

CLASSMATE’S POST

So, I had very little diversity because I attended a private elementary school. Also because of this to an elementary student everyone was the same. I am sure there was some socioeconomic groups, but they were not as visible in my school as maybe others. The teachers did a very poor job addressing this. An example was my parents were divorced, and my 5th grade teacher told my mother at parent teacher conferences, that she didn’t think a single mom could or should raise two boys on her own. Teachers in general that were not nuns were very closed minded and allowed their basis to interfere with the development of their students. There were lots of things that could have changed I am sure, but I was just oblivious to them.
