Does Canada lack an identity?

Does Canada lack an identity? Since 1867, politicians, academics and citizens have attempted to create a coherent Canadian identity. Quebec nationalism, Constitutional disagreements, Aboriginal rights, the Charter, multiculturalism, Western alienation, changing patterns of immigration and citizenship has complicated the pursuit of this goal. This has led several observers to conclude that Canada has no identity that we can grasp.  In essence, our identity is ‘a lack of identity.’ Is this an accurate depiction of Canadian lack of identity? Alternatively, is there a Canadian identity that has evolved since 1867?
