Hobson, Imperialism—A Study (1902) https://www.marxists.org/archive/hobson/1902/imperialism/index.htm - Read Preface, Introductory and all of Part I, The Economics of Imperialism. John A. Hobson argued against hegemonic political and economic integration. According to Hobson, while an argument could be made for establishing colonial presences in the New World, it was not easy to make the same case for imperialism, i.e., not establishing a strong presence of overseas settlers from the Mother Country, but instead focusing largely on the export of capital from the developing world to the more industrialized economies such as Great Britain.
