Aims:
1. To explore key theoretical issues in the psychology of education.
2. To develop an enhanced understanding of and critical approach towards the contribution of psychological theory and research to educational issues and practice.
3. To develop an increased awareness of the role of psychology in learning communities.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this unit students should be able to:
1. Systematically evaluate theory and evidence in the psychology of education.
2. Critically analyse the contribution of psychological theory and research to educational issues and practice.

Case study brief:
Mental Health and wellbeing in childhood and education are regularly presented on social media and in the news, for example in relation to wellbeing of teachers and/or
cuts to services for children etc. Pick an item from the news/social media and critically discuss and analyse this in relation to: key psychological theories and
debates – evidence of applications of psychological research in practice.
This case study should include the following:
• In depth consideration of the issues linked to the case study – specifically in relation to key concepts, risk factors and the role of the social context.
• Application of the literature to the case study in order to support your analysis with evidence.
• A clear structure – be sure to clearly lay out your topic and structure in the first paragraph; and stick to this!
• References and evidence, following APA. Avoid saying stuff like: Research has shown that… - if you cannot back this up with a reference.
