The environment, consisting of both the physical and social components, plays a large role in shaping individual and population health. Access to basic resources such as food, water, and sanitation is essential for the foundations of health. The distribution of these resources is not equal, however, and there are large disparities exposures to environmental risks. Additionally, issues of social inequality, discrimination, and systemic racism create environments that disproportionately put some groups at risk for negative health outcomes or reduce access to resources that could improve health. The series Unnatural Causes addresses these interconnections between the physical and social environments and health by focusing on specific issues within the United States and abroad. In this assignment, you will select one of the films from the series ‘Unnatural Causes’ available on the ASU library site, other than In Sickness and in Wealth which is required viewing for module 5.
