EPA Independent Evaluator Project description Scenario: The environment continues to provide challenges to public safety professionals, yet the condition of the environment cannot be overlooked, especially when the long-term health of the planet depends upon purposeful and responsible action. For the purposes of this question, you are an independent evaluator hired by the U.S. Government to rate the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Question: Describe ways in which the EPA's approach to risk assessment for hazardous contaminants are similar to, and different from, the assessment of such natural (atmospheric) threats as hurricanes or tornados. How might they be similar/different in the scope, emphasis, and focus taken in defining threat levels and potential outcomes; and how might they be similar/different in the metrics used (standards for measuring, quantifying, and scaling degree of danger or potential harm)?
