So What Have we done thus far? How does it relate to the Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice (ANP)? Here are some thoughts to get you started.
Essentials of Doctoral Education for ANP
I. Scientific Underpinnings for Practice
***You have explored and examined nursing at an advanced level in leadership, competency, practice, organization and much more from an ethical and moral compass. A view of organizations and systems which quality and safety are an integral part of their mission. Leadership style to include transformational approaches were illuminated. How all of this affects policy, finance, standards of care for access, delivery, regulation of the services were expressed within your discussions.
II. Organizational and Systems Leadership for Quality Improvement and Systems Thinking
***As you continued to move through the course we discussed and accomplished assignments which reflected exemplary organizations, healthcare systems, and public/population health focused care provision. Quality and safety are paramount and are the underlying foundation for all change regardless of the spark which prompted such change. The bottom line is the persons we serve. We delved into the literature and the state of the science to examine what promotes transformational change in the environment each of you either practiced within or an environment which you found to be exemplary.
III. Clinical Scholarship and Analytical Methods for Evidence-Based Practice
***You all sought to find literature/evidence support for the strategies which would support the solutions posed for issue resolve of organizational problems and unfair/unhealthy practices affecting the environment . . . OR to support a healthy environment.
IV. Information Systems/Technology and Patient Care Technology for the Improvement and Transformation of Health Care
*** As one example . . . weekly discussions and substantive literature revealed how organizational/institutional systems technology has been a national movement for the provision of quality and safety from both a organization/provider/patient perspective. Your discussions contributed to this national “push”.
V. Health Care Policy for Advocacy in Health Care
***As advocates extraordinaire, we are in a good position to affect changes in health care policy. Until we can make effective changes from a leadership perspective, a good understanding and personal view of what it takes to negotiate the challenges of the health care environment is a necessity. Review the course objectives and reflect upon how you achieved them week by week. What you will find is all of these contribute to making an impact for health care policy.
VI. Interprofessional Collaboration for Improving Patient and Population Health Outcomes
***Team building review post reading, discussions and assignments expounded upon the critical elements for effective collaboration. The inclusion of mentors, partners, allies, and confidants are an integral part of team building. Trust is gained when this process is approached from a healthy lens.
VII. Clinical Prevention and Population Health for Improving the Nation’s Health
*** When you can meet all the course objectives 1–5 and all of the above, we actively participate from a “whole” organizational/leadership perspective which contributes to the improvement and preventive measures for the Nation’s Health.
VIII. ANP
*** From a leadership perspective, the APRN is an integral part of all of the above. Team building and interprofessional collaboration are one of the main ingredients for the role this nurse plays while accomplishing each essential.
Peruse the course objectives, review each week’s content . . . then ponder . . . carefully how what you have accomplished this past 10 weeks is a reflection of the essentials.
