Los Angeles is the second most populous city in the United States with an estimated population of 4 million people. It is known for its diverse culture and offers many opportunities for those looking to pursue their dreams. However, it also has one of the highest crime rates in America, making it a challenging place to live and work.

Two contemporary criminal justice policies or procedures that are challenging Los Angeles include gang violence and policing reform. Gang violence has become increasingly prevalent in Los Angeles over recent years as more gangs have become active in the area. As such, there has been an increase in shootings, robberies, drug-related crimes and other violent acts associated with gang activity throughout the city. In order to address this issue effectively evidence-based solutions must be implemented that focus on prevention rather than enforcement alone. One potential solution includes implementing organized activities targeting at-risk youth such as mentoring programs or job training initiatives that offer alternative paths away from gang affiliation or involvement (1). This could involve providing resources for job placement or financial aid for higher education as well as providing counseling services for those struggling with mental health issues that may make them more vulnerable to engaging in criminal behavior (2).
