  My favorite U.S. President is Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who served from 1933 to 1945. FDR was an inspiration for me due to his incredible leadership ability and immense compassion for his fellow Americans during a time of great economic hardship and uncertainty: the Great Depression and World War II.

FDR had the courage to make hard decisions even when unpopular, such as launching the New Deal which involved implementing a number of pioneering social programs that provided relief to those suffering in poverty and created jobs for millions of unemployed individuals. On top of this, he also led a successful war effort against Nazi Germany while inspiring hope across America through his famous fireside chats, which were broadcast radio addresses he made during times of crisis or celebration. FDR’s intelligence, charisma, strength of character and vision distinguished him amongst all other presidents in American history; these qualities are what I find most important when selecting a president. Intelligence allows the leader to effectively analyze complex issues on both domestic and international levels; it also enables him or her to take calculated risks that can lead to meaningful change or advancement with minimal risk-taking. Charisma contributes towards building bridges between people from different backgrounds when attempting to reach consensus on issues that require negotiation or compromise; it can also be used as a tool for motivating others towards taking action with boldness and enthusiasm rather than fearfulness or hesitation. Strength of character is important because it demonstrates respect towards ethical values such as honesty, integrity, commitment, loyalty and accountability— necessary traits in any leader so that their words remain true regardless of circumstance or pressure from outside opinions/interests. Vision refers not onlyto seeing into the future but having insight as well: understanding current events without being swayed by popular opinion outbursts nor clouded by personal biases; furthermore it involves making wise decisions based on sound judgement rather than whimsical impulses. These are all qualities I look for in a president - the ones I feel FDR embodied more-so than any other U.S president before him (and possibly since). He was able to take America through its darkest moments while at same time instilling optimism throughout its citizens - something we could certainly use more off today!
