not want to do 2 separate transactions. I will upload the instruction for each forum and also will upload the stories that you need to read in order to write the forums.
Here is the first forum instructions.
Mythological Literary Theory: Heroes, Villains, & Archetypes
Whole-Class Discussion
Like so many stories in our anthology, "The Rocking-Horse Winner" and "The Garden Party" are shaped by initiation -- perhaps even a dark initiation. Please discuss each protagonist's "initiation"
into adulthood (and subsequent conflicts). Note that the main character in "Rocking-Horse" follows both the hero archetype and the Oedipus Complex Theory in mythology; for "The Garden Party" you
may choose to focus on the hera's "conflicts and prejudices" regarding social class and standing in society. For both stories, you may also wish to compare the characters' "ordinary" worlds to
their "special" worlds and/or initiations into adulthood.
Please post an initial analysis of at least 500 words.
and here is the second forum instruction
Please visit the following Internet site for a glimpse at a very sophisticated analysis of Joyce's "Araby." Please click here: Sample Essays Analyzing James Joyce's Short Story "Araby" (Links to an
external site.)Links to an external site..
Please select one of the following topics discussed in the essay, and compare and contrast the web site's ideas to your own feelings about Joyce's heroes, villains, and archetypes:
•Summary of an Epiphany
•Using Setting and Atmosphere
•The Central Symbol of the Church
•Using Myth and Archetype
•The Lonely Quest
•POV - The Ironic Narrator
•Character
Do you agree with the web site author? Has this author provided you a new and perhaps deeper understanding of the story? (Or is it all academic gibberish and you are terribly confused and currently
dislike your teacher for making you read this elitist BS?)
