2 parts in this paper. when you finish the first part just continue writing the second part in a new paragraph. I will upload the instruction for each part. I will also upload the stories you need to read in order to write about them. the stories all from the book "introduction to fiction" sixth edition by john j. clayton.
here is the instruction for the 1st part.
For this week's whole-class forum discussion, please analyze the narrative style employed by Katherine Anne Porter in "The Jilting of Granny Weatherall." Porter uses an experimental treatment of consciousness.
According to Clayton, many 20th century writers have chosen to use shadow experiences: near death, near sleep, in fever, in insanity, in a drugged state or mental handicap. Thus they've been able to twist syntax, infuse the flow of consciousness with digression, discontinuity, and poetic metaphor. Porter's story is a perfect example. And by so doing, she can get at the difference between apparent reality -- Granny -- and inner reality -- jilting. We stay in Granny's limited omniscience, seeing over her shoulder; and then the camera pulls in and we're within the language of her blurred consciousness, a poetry that dissolves time and logic.
For your 500 word analysis, please discuss the use of Porter's narrative style. What portrait does it paint of Granny? Of near-death experience? Of someone bitter and remorseful? How is Porter able to switch from inside Granny's consciousness to outside events happening in the present moment? Give specific examples from the story to support your ideas.
first part is 500 words.
here is the instruction for the second part.
"The Jilting of Granny Weatherall"
"A Rose for Emily"
"Lust"
post a 250 word analysis of each story on Turnitin (total of 750 words). Since Turnitin only allows you to post once per assignment, please include all three story analyses in one post!
In your response, apply Psychological Literary Theory to the main female characters (Granny, Emily, and the narrator in "Lust"). In other words, psychoanalyze any actions, emotions, ideas, relationships, etc. in order to determine each character's psychological state of mind. You may discuss pertinent symbols, character personality traits and conflicts to support your ideas.
