1. Police officers are frequently exposed to situations that can negatively impact their personal mental health. The stress that police officers are exposed to on the job often contributes to their own personal mental health. This can be costly in terms taking time off of work and left unchecked it becomes a common problem. Describe how the following relates to police officers;

• The prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and alcohol abuse;
• Barriers to mental-health services for police officers; and
• The impact these conditions have on productivity loss.

2. Explain the stigma attached to mental illness and describe a minimum of three anti-stigma initiatives.

3. Contact with police and those suffering from a mental illness, is common; however, most people with a mental illness do not commit criminal acts. Explain why police would come into contact with people suffering from a mental illness without being involved in a criminal act.

4. During the past year, police in Canada have been involved in a number of shooting of mentally ill persons. You will research this concept and provide the following:

• An overview of a situation where police were involved in such a shooting; ensuring that you provide details that explain what initiated the police involvement and what the outcome was of the shooting,
• Look at this situation from both the victim’s and a police perspective and provide me with your opinion on how this situation could have been prevented
