Friendship requires give and take, but social media has changed the way we cultivate our relationships. On one hand, social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter make it easier than ever before to stay in contact with friends near and far. They provide a convenient way for us to see what's going on in each other's lives without actually having to meet up face-to-face or talk on the phone. We can easily share pictures, updates, funny memes – whatever we want! This can make staying connected much more effortless.
On the other hand, social media also makes it difficult to nurture real friendships because so many of our interactions are reduced to superficial digital chatter. Social media gives us easy access to everyone else’s lives but it can also mean that we miss out on truly getting to know someone because everything is filtered through a computer screen. It’s hard not only knowing how your friends really feel about something when they might be posting things online that don’t necessarily reflect their true opinions – there’s no amount of “likes” or comments that could replace an honest conversation or quality time spent together.
Moreover, spending too much time scrolling through news feeds can lead us down a rabbit hole of comparing ourselves to others which often leaves us feeling inadequate or jealous as well as unfocused from what truly matters in life such as personal growth & development and cherishing valuable moments with people who enrich our lives instead of just being concerned about how many “likes” something receives from strangers online. As humans, we need positive connection with others but research has found that increasing degrees of loneliness are associated with greater reliance on digital technologies and decreased satisfaction in relationships (Zhao et al., 2018).
To conclude, while social media certainly enhances our ability to connect quickly with friends across distances and allows us all stay updated on each other's progressions in life; however it cannot substitute true friendship which needs trustful communication & open dialogue between two people built over time by investing effort into nurturing them equally both online offline(in person) if you hope for genuine meaningful friendships that last long beyond any particular platform lifetime .
