Years of scholarship have identified that everyday food preparations are highly gendered. Who prepares the meals often exerts the greatest influence on the types, quantity and presentation of available food choices. In country of study ( Sri Lanka), what role – if any – did gender play in your understanding of how food was prepared and served? Did you find that traditional gendered roles prevailed, or were both women and men collectively involved in the preparation of daily meals? Furthermore, who was ultimately responsible for food purchasing and meal preparation? What did this say about the cultural norms, values and expectations of the country or region of the world you investigated?
