Answer the following questions:
- Describe the different types of convergent plate boundaries (ocean-ocean, ocean-continent, and continent-continent). For each of these boundaries, indicate the geologic features that are associated with it and provide a relevant example.
- Compare the chemical composition, thickness, and characteristics of continental crust and oceanic crust. Why do these differences occur?
- Why is there such an enormous difference in age between the seafloor and continents?
- Explain how the North American plate’s location affects the geological activity occurring in North America. Be sure to consider the types of plate boundaries and the types of volcanoes along Alaska, Washington/Oregon, and California, and along the East Coast.
- What is the African Rift? What kind of plate boundary is it? At what rate is the rift widening?
Your response to each of the questions should be at least 250 words (approximately 1 page) with a 12-point font. A grading rubric for each of the written assignments can be found in the Evaluation Rubrics folder.
